What people say behind my back
The other day someone called me to ask me to give a guest lecture because the counseling grad students in her class requested a guest lecture from me. I think some of these students may have been in another class that I presented to several months back about business models for therapists in private practice. But somehow they recalled that I also work with teens and wanted me to come back to talk about that.
I hear that people have “heard my name” or “someone was talking about my work” not infrequently… and I love it.
Early on in my private practice life, I worked really hard to establish myself as a go-to expert in my community when it came to teens, young adults, and parenting support.
But I don’t work that hard at marketing any more.
Once you’ve established yourself, your reputation can take on a life of it’s own.
People talk about you.
Behind your back.
In good ways.
This is where you want to ultimately get in your practice – to a place where the referrals keep rolling in, but you put in minimal effort. You get to step back from marketing and focus on what your true intention was in getting into this work – transforming lives.
I am not going to lie to you – getting to that point in your practices takes effort. A lot of effort. But once you are there, it feels amazing.
If you’re ready to put in the work it takes to create the foundation that will eventually put you in this position – one of stable income, consistent referrals, time to take care of yourself so you can focus on the work, then sign up for one of my last remaining slots to talk about joining the Group Intensive that starts in April.
Talk soon,
